Summer is chill (except for the paw pads): our canine advice
🐾 The right things to do with your dog in summer (without melting like vanilla ice cream)
Sunshine, drinks on the terrace, walks by the water... summer is the good life. But for your dog, it's also the season when you need extra attention. Heatwave + burning paws + fur = a combo you need to manage like a pro. Here are our tips for ensuring your companion has a summer as sweet as peach syrup.
🌞 1. Walks at the right times (Team Freshness)
We avoid midday walks in the blazing sun—it's not Koh-Lanta here. Favor:
- Early morning (between 6am and 9am)
- At the end of the day (after 8 p.m. if possible)
💡 Hot sand or asphalt can cause serious injuries to your pads. Try it: if you can't walk barefoot... neither can he.
💧 2. Always water (and not just for Instagram)
Your dog doesn't sweat like you do. He regulates his temperature by panting... so he gets dehydrated quickly .
- ✔️ Always keep a water bottle or collapsible bowl with you.
- ✔️ Change your water often at home (it heats up quickly in summer)
☀️ 3. In the shade Simone!
Dogs love to lounge around... until they overheat. When out walking, take breaks in the shade every 15–20 minutes. And at home, consider creating a cool spot for your dog .
💤 That's where our lovingly curated baskets, sold by Marley & Bloom , come in: comfy, soft, and breathable. Perfect for a post-walk nap in the shade of curtains (or a fan, we don't judge).
🍉 4. Fresh treats? Yes, chef
There's nothing like lickable ice cubes or small cubes of watermelon to help your dog cool down.
❄️ You can even freeze:
- Plain yogurt (unsweetened)
- Croquettes with a little water
- A portion of pâté in a hollow toy
Ice cube effect & happiness guaranteed.
🚫 5. What we absolutely avoid:
- Leaving your dog in the car (even for 2 minutes = no, never, never)
- Mow it close (the hair also protects it from the sun!)
- Unauthorized beaches (because a summer without fines is better)
🐶 In summary: we're experiencing summer, but in a dog-friendly version
☀️ Summer can be great for your dog… as long as you respect his needs.
Between cool walks, hydration, quiet naps and little attentions, he will have a royal summer.
